Should You Hire an Airbnb Consultant or Take a Course?
One gets it done for you. The other teaches you to do it yourself, for good. Here’s how to tell which fits where you are right now.
Hiring a consultant makes sense if you want results without doing the work yourself and can afford ongoing or project fees. A course makes sense if you want to build the skill yourself, manage multiple properties long-term, or are just starting and want to learn before spending on services. Many hosts start with a course to understand the fundamentals, then bring in a consultant or co-host once they’re ready to scale.
Side by side
| Consulting | The Course | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Project or ongoing fee, quoted to your property | One-time $299, lifetime access |
| Who does the work | We do | You do |
| Time to first result | Fast — work starts on your listing directly | As fast as you work through the material |
| Best for | Hosts who want it handled, or are scaling past their own bandwidth | Hosts who want to learn it once and keep the skill |
| Long-term value | Ongoing relationship, renewed as needed | A skill set you keep and can apply to every future property |
When consulting is the right call
If your time is better spent elsewhere, or you’re managing enough properties that doing the optimization and pricing work yourself isn’t realistic, done-for-you consulting gets you results without the learning curve. It’s also the right call if you want a second, expert set of eyes on a listing that’s already underperforming and you need it fixed now.
When the course is the right call
If you’re just starting, want to understand why something works (not just that it does), or plan to run more than one property over time, the course builds a skill set you keep permanently — no ongoing fee, and it applies to every listing you ever run, not just the one you paid to have optimized.
Why this isn’t really an either/or
The two paths aren’t competitors — they’re sequential for a lot of hosts. Someone starting with a single property often takes the course first, both to save money early and to understand what "good" actually looks like before hiring anyone. Once they’re scaling toward a second or third property, or simply want their time back, that’s when consulting or co-hosting starts to make more sense than doing it all themselves.
If you’re not sure which describes you, the honest answer is: if you have the time and want to learn it, start with the course — you can always add consulting later. If you don’t have the time, or you’re past the point where learning it yourself is the priority, start with a free listing audit instead.
Can I do the course now and hire a consultant later?
Yes — this is actually the most common path. The course gives you the fundamentals and a working vocabulary for your own listing; a lot of hosts then bring in consulting or co-hosting once they’re ready to scale past what they can manage solo.
Is the course enough on its own, or do most hosts eventually need consulting?
The course is genuinely complete on its own for a host running one or two properties who has the time to execute it. Consulting tends to make sense once you’re managing more properties than you can personally optimize and price well, or you’d simply rather not do the work yourself.
