Why Isn’t My Airbnb Getting Bookings? 7 Reasons (and Fixes)

If your listing gets views but not bookings, the problem is usually one of these seven things.

The most common causes are a low search ranking (poor title/photo/amenity match to what guests filter for), pricing that doesn’t match your comp set, slow response times to inquiries, and too few or poor-quality reviews. Airbnb’s algorithm weights recent booking activity and guest satisfaction heavily, so a listing that’s new or recently under-optimized gets suppressed in search until it proves itself.

Here’s each one in more detail, roughly in the order we’d check them.

1. Your listing isn’t showing up in search

Airbnb and VRBO both rank listings against what a guest actually filters for — amenities, instant book, response rate, calendar accuracy. If your amenities section is incomplete or your calendar has stale blocked dates, you can be technically live and still invisible to most searches in your market.

2. The photos don’t stop the scroll

Your cover photo has to win the scroll in under a second. A dim, cluttered, or oddly-cropped cover photo loses to a well-lit, wide-angle shot of your best room every time — regardless of how nice the actual property is.

3. The title and description say nothing

“Cozy Home Near Downtown” describes half the listings in any city. A title that leads with your single strongest differentiator (a view, a hot tub, walking distance to a specific landmark) gives search and guests a reason to click.

4. Your price doesn’t match your comp set

If you’re priced meaningfully above or below the 8–12 similar listings in your immediate area, you’ll either scare off bookings or fill up so fast you’re leaving money on the table — both look the same from the outside: a calendar that doesn’t behave the way you expect.

5. You’re slow to respond

Response rate and response time are direct ranking factors, not just a nice-to-have. A host who takes 12 hours to answer an inquiry loses both the booking and search position, even if every other part of the listing is strong.

6. Your reviews are thin or old

A listing with 3 reviews from a year ago reads as a risk to a guest comparing you against a listing with 40 recent ones. Volume and recency both matter more than most hosts assume.

7. It’s a genuinely new listing

New listings get a temporary visibility boost, then drop until they’ve proven themselves with real bookings and reviews. If you’re past that initial window and still not booking, the boost is gone and the fundamentals above are what’s left carrying you.

What to do next

Work through these in order — search visibility and photos first, since nothing else matters if guests never see the listing. If you want a second set of eyes on which of these seven is actually costing you the most bookings, that’s exactly what a listing audit is for.

How long does it take to fix a low-performing Airbnb listing?

Most of the fixes below — title, photos, amenities, pricing — can be made in a day. Airbnb’s algorithm typically needs 1–2 weeks of fresh signal (views, bookings, response times) before a listing’s search position visibly moves.

Can a listing with good reviews still get zero bookings?

Yes. Reviews affect trust once a guest finds you, but they don’t fix a listing that’s buried in search or priced above its comp set. Ranking and pricing problems are invisible to a host looking only at their review score.
